Man claims trial to molesting wife's sister

Kota Kinabalu: A 21-year-old general worker claimed trial at the Magistrate's Court here to molesting his wife's eight-year-old sister.The man, who is married with two children, is accused of committing the offence at 7am on Feb 6 in a house at Penampang here.Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun set May 13 for case management and released the man on a bail of RM2,500 in two sureties with conditions that he report to the police station every month and keep a distance of about 500 meters from the alleged victim.

Earlier, prosecuting officer Inspector Azaman Hamat proposed bail at RM5,000 and that the accused could not have any contact with alleged victim as she was his sister-in-law.Counsel PJ Perira, representing the man, requested for the bail sum to be reduced saying the alleged victim is staying about 1.5km away from the accused's house.The man was charged under Section 354 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or with a fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishments on conviction.In another case, a 44-year-old self-employed man was fined RM100 or one day jail and sentenced to two weeks' jail after he admitted to having goods believed to be stolen.

Victor Joseph admitted to having an internet modem, a walkie talkie, a charger and an internet cable about which he failed to give a reasonable explanation as to how he had obtained them.He had committed the offence in a house at Kg Tombovo, Penampang at 2am on April 16.
