Bugis warriors film set for shooting

Kuala Lumpur: The history of the struggle of Malay warriors – especially from the Bugis community – in helping to uphold the Malay Sultanate in the archipelago will be highlighted in the latest local epic feature 'Putera Makassar Mahkota Bugis'.The film's producer Asmadie Mokhadar said the film which was adapted from the text of 'Tuhfat al-Nafis', centers around the adventures of five heroes of Makassar, Indonesia to Malaya to help the Johor Sultanate which faced a power struggle."The heroes nicknamed 'Daeng Lima Bersaudara' (The Five Daeng Brothers) were described as experts in silat, wielding weapons and possessed high skills in navigation. In fact, the origins of silat gayong in Malaysia also comes from them," he said.

Asmadie said the film, which has received the consent of the Sultan of Johor, is almost 80 per cent action, and the rest is dialogues which use the traditional Malay and Bugis language.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
