Kota Kinabalu: Aspiring soft tennis umpires who attended the one-day officiating course at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex tennis courts on Wednesday stand a good chance of appearing on the international stage later in the year.KK Chin, who is one of the organising committee members of the event said on Wednesday that two of the participants who qualified for the international badge will be sent to the Japan Cup championship in August and another two for the Asian Soft Tennis Championship also in Japan later in the year.

"The expenditure of the chosen ones will be fully paid with allowances as well, so it is a good factor to motivate the local participants here to try to their best to qualify."

He said the 22 participants who attended the seven-hour course conducted by Michael Enriquez from the Philippines will put to test at the 3rd Southeast Asian Soft Tennis Federation (SEASTF) Malaysia Open and Junior Soft Tennis Championship starting here tomorrow (Friday).

"Ken-ichi Tansaki, who is Asian Soft Tennis Federation International Affairs Officer will arrive tomorrow and he will lead the panel going around the courts monitoring the performances on each of the attendees. Those who make the grade will then be issued a badge issued by the Asian Federation," he said.

Meanwhile, three Indonesians and one Vietnamese also paid their way here to attend the course together with the 11 students from SMK Shan Tao and other locals.
