Penampang: A total of 95 food outlets were inspected during a joint health and cleanliness operation conducted by the District Health Office, District Council and the Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Co-operatives Ministry here. Out of the figure, a total of two premises were ordered to close under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.

A total of 31 compounds were also issued for various offences, among them, related to the business operators' responsibility, failure to abide by health screening requirements, health and cleanliness of food handlers as well as failure to keep premises clean.

The Penampang District Council enforcement team also issued one compound under the Anti-Litter Bylaw while no compound was issued by the Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Co-operatives Ministry.

District Health Officer Dr Rosila Yahaya reminded food outlet operators to ensure their premises are clean and that they abide by the law at all times.

She also reminded people to be wise and only choose food outlets that are clean to ensure that the food and beverages served are safe for consumption.

The operation was part of an all-out effort by the Health Ministry to ensure cleanliness at food outlets during its 'Operasi Premis Makanan Bersih' operation conducted nationwide this year.

The operation was aimed to ensure all food outlets abide by the rules and regulations stipulated under the Food Act 1983 as well as the Food Cleanliness Regulation 2009.

The latest operation in Penampang involved 22 officers and personnel from the District Health Office, three from the Penampang Council and four from the Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Co-operatives Ministry.
