2,000 Lions are here for meet

Kota Kinabalu: More than 2,000 Lions Club members will be in town for the 54th Multiple District 308 Lions Convention 2016 from April 29-May 2.The organising committee of the convention paid a courtesy call to the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman recently.The purpose of the visit led by the organising chairperson Past District Governor Karen Koh was to brief Musa that the convention is hosted by the Sabah Lions Clubs. ADVERTISEMENT The convergence of about 2,000 Lions members from the whole of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei as well as from other districts and countries is a testimony to how Lions Clubs International has undeniably become the global leader in community and humanitarian service.Currently, the local Lions Clubs are in the midst of implementing free cataract operations through collaboration with the State Health Department, providing free glasses to the needy and other focus projects of the Lions Clubs International's Centennial Challenge; the four focus projects being Engaging Our Youth, Protecting Our Environment, Relieving the Hunger, and Sharing the Vision.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The Lions Clubs had also responded to the Ranau Earthquake whereby Lions Clubs International Foundation released an emergency grant of USD10, 000 for immediate disaster relief.With this grant and other funds generated locally, local Lions members were able to mobilise delivery of food stuff, repair materials and medical supplies to the affected population in and around Ranau.
