Prosecuting officers sharpen their skills

Kota Kinabalu: A total of 114 investigating officers from several departments and State agencies participated in a course to enhance their knowledge and application of environmental laws.Among the officers involved were from the Forestry Department, City Hall, Fisheries Department, Sabah Parks, Land and Survey Department, Drainage and Irrigation Department, Wildlife Department and Environment Protection Department. According to a statement, the two-day course was part of activities under the judiciary-led Kota Kinabalu Working Group on Environment jointly organised with the Kota Kinabalu Court and Forestry Department. The event was held at the mini theatre at the forestry office, here, recently.During the course, two officers from the Judicial and Legal Training Centre, Mariani Ghani and Iznan Ishak delivered talks covering topics from the roles and powers of investigating officers to the important groundwork to produce good investigation papers. The participants were also exposed to adversarial situations in the court during trial and a hands-on training on the preparation of charge and handling of exhibits before a case is brought to court. The closing ceremony was officiated at by Sabah Court Director Indra Ayub.Also present were High Court Deputy Registrars Elsie Primus and Norhamizah Shaiffuddin as well as Forestry Department officer Peter Maurice Lidadun.
