Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Football Association (Safa) Futsal League received overwhelming response with 82 teams confirming their participation which will begin at the BSA Futsal centre in Kolombong this Sunday.Safa's Futsal Committee Chairman Yamani Hafez Musa was pleased with the turnout of teams from as far as Tawau, Sandakan and Lahad Datu.

"This is a very positive sign as this tournament is held to develop the sport by providing the platform for players from all over the state to showcase their talents.

"At the same time, a league competition divided into several divisions will be established after this with the top eight teams from this tournament featured in division one. Hopefully the league can be developed to be more competitive in the future.

"Also as a step to further improve the standard of the game, starting next year, all teams in division one will need to register coaches who possessed an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) level one coaching certificate.

All the top eight teams are allowed to send one male and one female coach to attend the course which will be held in August," he said.

Meanwhile, the draws and managers' meeting for this weekend's competition will be held at the Dewan Serbaguna Pasca Siswazah at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) this Saturday at 3pm and for further inquiries, contact Azman Soaibah at 016-8207479.
