Travelling the globe on bikes

Keningau: Three men travelling the globe on their bicycles are currently touring the State.One of them, William Bennett, 26, from Ireland, said he had embarked on the journey from his home country in January 2015 and reached Lawas, Sarawak, last Wednesday before proceeding to Sabah.He would be passing Sipitang, Tenom, Keningau, Tawau prior to a trip to Indonesia, Australia, South America and back to Ireland.ADVERTISEMENT "It has been my dream since I was young to travel around the world and see the uniqueness of each place."I have faced many challenges during my journey, such as losing my money and sometimes I have to cycle in extreme conditions," said Bennett, who had quit his job as a computer programmer.His two other friends are Matthew Harris, 45, from Australia and Clement Thiepel, 25, from France.Matthew, who works as a light researcher, said his journey started in September 2014 from Eindhoven, the Netherlands.ADVERTISEMENT "So far, I have travelled in 32 countries on my bicycle and I will only go back to Australia after I've completed all the places that I want to visit."It has been a very interesting experience for me to travel around the world on bicycles with my friends," said Harris.

Thiepel had been travelling for a year on a bicycle, and among the places that he had visited were Ireland, Germany, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, India, Myanmar, Thailand and Indonesia, apart from Malaysia.All three of them concurred that the journey had also brought them close to the local communities besides being a good example to others that nothing is impossible when one has determination to do it.
