Alor Setar: Kedah Football Association (KFA) president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah Monday denied claims that the association has signed a deal with former Barcelona footballer Ricardo Quaresma, as reported in the social media recently.Ahmad Bashah said the alleged player's acquisition involving a RM1.9 million fund transfer was never discussed at the KFA meeting and he had no idea from where the statement came from.

"We have never discussed buying the former Barcelona footballer at the KFA meeting, so I don't how the claim came about and I wish to inform that this is just a rumour," he told reporters after launching a Public Works Department project tendering programme, here, Monday.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Bashah said the issue over Brazilian import striker, Carlos Eduardo de Souza Floresta or Carlos Kahe whose dismal performance had failed to help the Kedah squad would be discussed before a decision would be made.

"We take in foreign players in the hope that the Red Eagles will perform better in each game, but if they are of no help we will have to make some changes to ensure the team performs," he said.

Ahmad Bashah expressed hope that the Kedah squad would keep up their fighting spirit despite having lost to Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) with a 4-3 aggregate after the FA Cup semifinal match on Saturday.

"When JDT played at Darul Aman Stadium they lost, but on Saturday they defeated us. In any game, there has to a winner and a loser, but I hope the players are not discouraged to give their best in the coming matches," he said. – Bernama
