Juniors resume second round action with a victory

Kota Kinabalu: Team Manager Datuk Juil Nuantim got his wish granted as the State juniors started their second round of the President Cup competition with a 2-0 win over Melaka at the Likas Stadium, Monday.The team had been struggling for the past few matches and the victory came as a huge relief for Juil. He had earlier warned the players that it was an important match and the players must try to win the match.

"What is important for the win today is the three big points. I hope it will also serve as a morale booster for their next game against T-Team," he said.The win was also a sweet revenge for coach Justin Ganai, as Sabah had lost the previous encounter 1-0 last week in the first round tie.Under pressure to do well in front of the home fans, striker Rahman Shah Marajeh, who did not start last week, put the home side ahead with a delightful lob in the 13th minute.The visitors however, began to stamp their mark halfway through the half and they had two one-on-one situations with only goalkeeper Tekson Tubeng to beat but fortunately for Sabah, on both occasions the players missed the target completely.

They also had a free kick that struck the post.Any chance of a comeback by Melaka was dashed in the 49th minute when they were reduced to 10 men after goalkeeper Muhd Fahnie Hanapiah was red carded for bringing down Dexy Mildy Juanis just outside the box.
