Sabah Polytech women futsal team tops

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Polytechnic Women Futsal Team emerged champion in the women's category of the 2016 Malaysian Polytechnic Futsal Championship League held from April 28-30 in Negeri Sembilan.The team comprising eight students from Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan Polytechnics defeated last year's champion, Sarawak Polytechnic with a margin of 1-0 in the finals.

It was double victory for the Sabah Women's Team when one of its players, Neryana Tadom was also named Best Futsal Player for the woman's category.

The team took home a trophy, medals and jersey set courtesy of Futsalasport.

Earlier, Assistant Coordinator of the Centre Of Development of Malaysian Polytechnic Futsal team, Rasyidi Abdullah said the championship was one of the many platforms for talent scouting among potential Polytechnic students as well as to expose and prepare players for the international arena.

This move is in line with the Ministry of Higher Education's aim to produce quality and holistic students in terms of academic, sports and co-curricular excellence.

The three-day championship saw a total of 11 men and 4 women's teams vying for the title.

Pahang Polytechnic emerged champion for the men's category.

Prizes were given away by Wan Zulkifly bin Wan Zakaria, Director of Student Development, Department of Polytechnic Education.
