Kota Belud: Kaamatan or Harvest Festival should still continue to be held as long as the Kadazandusun community exists, even if the harvest is not good."Even if paddy fields failed to yield good harvests for the year, Kaamatan must still be celebrated as a communal thanksgiving for all the other economic activities the Kadazandusun community had ventured in," said Kadamaian Assemblyman Jeremmy Ukoh Malajad when officiating Kadamaian's first Kaamatan this year at Kg Sumbilingon in Kelawat here, Sunday.

He was echoing an earlier sharing by Sumbilingo JKKK Chairman Laudi Kayangoh that he and the village chief had initially thought of foregoing a Kaamatan do this year as paddy cultivation was badly affected by the lack of rain.

According to Jeremmy, in today's world, the natives must venture into many other businesses which bring lucrative returns and this in return is another reason to continue celebrating the harvest festival which is one of Sabah's well-known celebrations.

"On top of that, we must continue to share and impart the beauty of our culture and traditions, and Tadau Kaamatan in May every year has proven to be one of the right venues to do so," he said.
