Penampang: Barisan Nasional Penampang Chairman Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin said the Kadazandusun should focus more on developing themselves and bringing their communities forward rather than continue to dwell at length on the issue of their collective identities. He said this in his speech at the 2016 Kg Kolopis zone Kaamatan celebration level on Monday.

However Donald who is also Upko Penampang Division Chief declined to elaborate further on his speech when met by the Daily Express.

On Saturday Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) President Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan cautioned against the search for new identities for the Kadazandusuns which he said will only further divide and weaken the community resolve and self-determination.

He added there was also a need to honour the Kadazan resolution of 1961 and Kadazandusun resolution of 1989.

This follows the controversy surrounding the alternative use of the term Momogun to describe Kadazandusuns which has been put forward by some parties.

Meanwhile Kolopis Village Chief cum event Central Committee Chairman Anthony Jubili said the Kolopis village level Kaamatan celebrations involved seven villages in the areas i.e. Takad/Tuunon, Tindai/Kaambazan, Soboong /Boliga and Sarapung.

"This Kaamatan celebration event originally started in 2002 and the aim is to gather all the residents in this seven villages together and celebrate together to be more merrier with a big crowd and to give opportunities to the local residents to market their produce to improve their economy and to maintain the Kadazandusun culture in the State."

He said the Kaamatan event had been attended by a large crowd of more than 1,000 people as there were many activities in the programme including Sugandoi singing contests, gala night, Unduk Ngadau beauty pageant and village sports events including tug of war.

He also extended his appreciation to the Giant East Malaysia & Brunei for their support of the event through their sponsorship of 50 lucky draw hampers and 200 sets of Uncle Jack Chicken Rice.

Giant Assistant Manager (Corporate Affairs) Annie Johnny said that Giant was always happy to support and work closely with local community events as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility during this festive month.
