Kunak: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) urged the local authority to reconsider its decision to build new public toilets in the Sapang building to replace the old public toilets which are no longer used by the public.PKR Silam Division Deputy Chief Djapri Kudosat said there is no need for the project when the old public toilets could be repaired or upgraded. "The old public toilets are not used and now they are planning to build a new one. What is the rationale behind this plan?" he said.

The distance between the old public toilets and the proposed new toilets is only a few metres.Djapri said it seemed that the local authority only wants to use public funds on unnecessary infrastructure when there are other more pressing needs in other areas.
"When we in the opposition speak out, others will start to accuse us saying that we only know how to oppose when actually we are only pointing out the weaknesses while looking for the best approach to solve the problem for the benefit of the public," he said."I understand the new toilets would need at least a few hundreds of thousands of ringgit to build and would benefit contractors only," he said.

Currently, there are three public toilets being built including Sapang building, Sedco building and another one near the Tamu ground. Djapri pointed out that the public toilet in Sedco building is also unnecessary because there is already another public toilet in the vicinity which is rarely used by the public. He said previously there were also other white elephant projects which do not fulfil the requirement of the people such as the new bus terminal which remains empty because of its unsuitable location. "Think for the benefit of all parties when planning any development project. Don't just think for personal interests. There is nothing wrong for us to say something, for the benefit of all," he said.
