Aussie group visits Children's Home

Kota Kinabalu: An Australian delegation is so pleased with their first trip to the Bondulu Children's home in Tambunan recently that they hope to make another next year.Roy Robins group of Yarragon, Victoria, was welcomed by Sr. Germaine Angkangon at the centre.

The visit was arranged by Avasi Borneo Tours and Travels Sdn Bhd.

Roy Robins, the head of the 10-man delegation, said: "I come to Sabah every year, bringing new members, and I am happy to show them new places. This year, we managed to visit two secondary schools, SM Stella Maris and SMK Bahang.

"We normally have interaction with the people who we meet with so that there'll be learning process and exchanging of thoughts taking place."

He said the visit to Bondulu Children's Home was its first. "I am happy to bring this group to do some charity work here," said Roy. They donated food items, stationeries, books to the over 60 boarders of the Home.

Patricia McPhie, one of the members was pleased to give away some of the books she collected back home for the children.

"These orphans here are sweet, they should be exposed with more reading materials, so that they can learn their English through reading this simple story books.

"I do have a lot more back home, and I am looking forward to give away some of the books to these children," said Patricia.

The group was in the State since mid-April and would be leaving for home after having visited many interesting places, including Borneo Cultural Village in Papar. They also attended the Anzac Day ceremony in Labuan.

Roy added that they will be coming back to Sabah around May next year in time for the Harvest Festival.

"Next year I will not miss the big event, the harvest festival and I am sure my new group of people will also look forward for this event," said Roy during the farewell dinner.
