Kota Kinabalu: Eleven youths from remote areas of Sabah, specifically the Pensiangan area, departed for the peninsula Tuesday to pursue a course on a range of agricultural skills at the Pulau Tiga sub-district (mukim) in Kampung Gajah, Perak. The programme, organised by the Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN), is held free for a duration of six months to two years, in collaboration with the Agro-Entrepreneur Institute, as one of the Government's strategies to forge integration and unity between the peninsula and Sabah.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup, was present with the parents of the trainees at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) here to send off the trainees.

The group is the second to depart for Perak after the first group comprising 18 trainees left last February.

"I urge them to participate in this programme as it is one of the Government's approaches through JPNIN to promote our culture to the peninsula, as well as our children in Sabah (understanding the culture).

"In other words, this means that through our economy, we are able to nurture integration and national unity," Kurup told reporters at the KKIA.
