Easier for S'poreans to get halal products

SINGAPORE: The opening of Agrobazaar Malaysia at Sultan Gate will make it easier for Singaporeans to sample a variety of food products and halal cuisine.Agrobazaar Malaysia which was opened in 2014 allow the republic's population to get to know various Malaysian products, especially from Melaka.

Hasleen Abdul Rahim,49, from Bishan, said she and her family were thrilled to visit Agrobazaar Malaysia at Sultan Gate.

"This is my first time here. After this, we no longer need to go to Johor or Melaka for Malaysian fare, especially halal products.

"My family will sample the Melaka cuisine offered here," she said after the launch of 'Melaka Plate@Riuh De Agrobazaar Campaign' launched by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron here, Monday.

Hasleen, a private company manager, said there must be continuous promotion to publicise Agrobazaar Malaysia as most Singaporeans did not know about it.

Meanwhile, Azizah Abdul Karim,63, from Woodlands said one of the main attraction of Agrobazaar is the Malaysian halal cuisine sold at the restaurant.

"I have visited Agrobazaar Malaysia many times and are satisfied with the products offered here especially the halal dishes.

"I always come with friends to dine at this restaurant because it is quiet and comfortable," said the retired policewoman.

She and her three friends were lucky to be able to enjoy six dishes, namely laksa nyonya, ikan bakar, gerang asam, ayam pongteh, cucur udang Melaka and cendol Melaka in conjunction with the two-week programme which opened Monday.

Azizah said Melaka dishes are close to her heart because her family was from Melaka and the food has its own uniqueness.

"I have tried all six dishes but Nyonya laksa and cendol Melaka are my favorites. So, I get to savour them again in the next two weeks," she added.

Agrobazaar Malaysia offers the concept of 'fru-ce-rant' (fruit, grocery and restaurant) and designed in four clusters, Pangkin, Nak Lagi, Happy Hours and Taste of Malaysia.

Pangkin give customers the orchard atmosphere with Malaysian fruits displayed on racks, Nak Lagi! promote agro industry products, Happy Hours offer special prices for coffee while 'Taste of Malaysia' promotes Malay traditional food according to state. – Bernama
