Eight fined for various traffic offences

Kota Kinabalu: Eight people were fined by the Traffic Court on Wednesday for various traffic offences.The eight pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to the charges against them.

Mahmud Abd Jaafar, 64, was fined RM3,500 or spend two weeks in prison for illegally operating his van as a public transport at 6pm on April 4, this year at the Sinsuran night market, here.

The offence, under Section 33 of the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act, carries a fine of up to RM10,000 or a year's jail, or both, on conviction.

Meanwhile, Han Yeng Ting, 35, Cornelius Udian, 28, Heldix Miol, 25, and Hiew Lee Yong, 46, were slapped with a fine of RM2,500 in default two weeks' jail each for driving their vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

They were found drink-driving on Nov 31, 2014 and April 2, this year along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, Jalan Lintas and Jalan Coastal.

Marwin Yoseph, 30, was fined RM900 or two weeks' jail for riding a motorcycle without a licence and with no insurance coverage.

The offence took place at 1.55am on May 16, 2010 along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, here.

Mohd Zariq Zubir Zulhael Mohd Rafik was fined RM600 or a week behind bars for driving his vehicle without a licence on June 14, 2014 along Jalan Kolam, here.

Another offender, Mohd Shazdren Shamlin was fined RM500 in default one week's jail for riding a motorcycle without rear mirrors.

Traffic Prosecuting Officer, Inspector Hanif Mamyudi appeared for the prosecution.
