Govt to blacklist those who sold 1Azam equipment

Beaufort: Those found abusing the 1Azam equipment given to them by the government, like selling them off, will have their names blacklisted and blocked from receiving future government aid and facilities. Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said the equipment given to them to kick-start their own business will also be repossessed and given to others who truly need them. The 1Azam programme is a skill-attainment programme involving e-Kasih recipients who come from hardcore poor families and the government also gives equipment so participants can generate an income from their newly-acquired skill.

Azizah said a guideline to monitor the items will not be given away by 1Azam participants will be introduced this year. "This will ensure government finances will not go to waste and that the 1Azam programme will not be cancelled. "There are participants whose names are already blacklisted but until today no one has had their equipment repossessed," she said. Azizah said this during a 1Azam equipment handing ceremony involving 41 participants at the Beaufort Parliamentary Office here.

"In Beaufort there are four former 1Azam trainees who have successfully gone out of poverty and they are also listed in the From Zero to Hero book which highlights the success of the programme's former participants," she said.
