KUANTAN: More than 20,000 places of study were offered by skills and vocational colleges in the eight series of the 2016 Bumiputra Education Tour which were held since March 21.Its secretariat head, Datuk Mohd Aizuddin Mohd Ghazali said the programme was successfully implemented in 50 parliamentary areas in the peninsula since it was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"The programme is expected to take two months to tour 64 selected parliamentary areas nationwide, with a target of 37,000 places of study at higher institutions of learning and colleges to be filled by students.

"We will hold the ninth tour series in Cameron Highlands, Temerloh, Bera and Pekan, Pahang on Saturday and Sunday, namely, the last state in peninsula Malaysia," he said in a media statement here.

For the four locations, he said, 3,000 to 5,000 more places of study would be offered to qualified students.

Mohd Aizuddin said 10 more parliamentary locations for the programme would be implemented in Sabah and it was scheduled to end on May 28.

He said the tours held were seen as having succeeded in achieving its objective to help the financially less capable, the poor, orphans, as well as orang asli to study at higher institutions of learning for a brighter future.

It too, he said was in line with the aspiration of the government in empowering Bumiputra higher education to be on par with other races.- Bernama
