Kota Kinabalu: A local was ordered to pay a fine of RM15,000 for allowing three illegal immigrants to stay in his premises.Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz ordered Lim Chong Hwe to pay RM5,000 or five months' jail on each illegal immigrant.

Lim pleaded guilty to permitting the three Indonesians without valid documents to stay in the Prince Karaoke and Lounge in Sipitang at 11.40pm on Feb 1, this year.

The offence, under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, provides for a fine of between RM10,000 and RM50,000 or jail term of up to a year, or both, on conviction, for each illegal immigrant involved.

Lim, who was not represented, asked for a light sentence.

But Prosecuting Officer Hamisa Puteh from the Immigration Department urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence on the grounds that such cases were getting common.

The illegal immigrants were found at Lim's premises during Ops Sayang conducted at the place by immigration personnel.

In the same court, four Filipinos who entered the State without valid documents were jailed four and five months each as well as ordered given a stroke of the cane each.

They were arrested after failing to produce their documents during documentation by police at the city area, recently.

Inspector Azaman Hamat prosecuted.
