Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Reform Movement (APS) President Datuk Seri Wilfred M. Bumburing said the recently concluded Sarawak state election pictured a scenario for the people of Sabah to discern. He said the message relayed across the Sarawak voters was for the Sarawakians to only look at and support local-based political parties and to be wary of not letting anything that happened to Sabah not to occur in Sarawak.

This was obviously, he said, referring to Umno that is dominating Sabah politics.

"The people of Sarawak now are assertive in their demand for more autonomy and they readily found in a leadership that meets their aspiration in Tan Sri Adenan Satem in furthering their cause.

"They realised that they can effectively pursue their demands only through the local political parties.

Although the local based parties are in Barisan Nasional (BN), they are ready to place their hopes in these local parties because Adenan speaks to their heart.

"By and large, the people of Sarawak do not want peninsula-based political parties and this was clearly spelt out by Adenan throughout the campaign. These Peninsular-based parties include Umno, DAP, PKR, Amanah and PAS," he said in his statement here Wednesday.

Issues with regards to the 1MDB and RM2.6 billion so-called "donation", Bumburing who is also the Tamparuli Assemblyman said, had not permeated into the minds of the Sarawak voters although it was being pushed to the centre by the national opposition parties.

He said their primary concern was on Sarawak's autonomy and the non-interference by the Malaya parties.

"I salute the people of Sarawak for standing up to their rights and I offer my sincere congratulations to the A-Team for a job well done.

"Sabahans must learn from what transpired in the Sarawak state elections. The in-fighting between DAP and PKR would be a disaster for the opposition in Sabah if such differences continues unresolved come the next 14th General Election.

"Such differences won't be well accepted by the voters. A united front comprising Sabah-based political parties would be the only viable option for Sabah in order to truly experience a conducive political environment and to pave a way that would bring about a lasting solutions to the many problems faced by Malaysians in Sabah," said Bumburing.
