Festival Price Control Scheme launched

Tawau: The Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Co-operatives Ministry (KPDNKK) on Monday launched the Festival Price Control Scheme in 27 districts in Sabah, one location in Labuan and 32 districts in Sarawak in conjunction with the Kaamatan and Gawai celebrations. Minister Dato Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the scheme involves 13 items which have been identified and will be enforced over 10-days namely seven days before, a day during the festival and two days after the festivals.
"For Kaamatan Festival, the scheme will start from May 23 until June 1, and Gawai from May 25 until June 3," he told a media conference after announcing the price control scheme here, on Monday.
Also present were Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan and Kalabakan MP Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh among others.
Hamzah said there will be no changes to the price of the 13 listed items and proprietors are required to label the controlled items with pink to show the difference in items.
He said they want to ensure business operators comply with the Anti-Profiteering and Price Control Act 2011, adding that stern action will be taken against those who failed to abide by the Act.
ADVERTISEMENT He said, the scheme enforcement will include inspections and monitoring by enforcement officers in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan with focus given to locations where there are many shoppers.
"The scheme implementation is to ensure consumers can enjoy items sold at reasonable prices and to avoid business operators from placing prices which are overboard.

He explained that enforcers will go down to the field either in their uniforms or in plain clothes.
The 13 listed items under the scheme are live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, chicken wings, old live chicken (Sarawak), eggs (Grade A, Grade B and Grade C, Indian imported beef (Sabah), Indian red onion (Sabah), Chinese garlic, imported round cabbage (Sarawak), live pig and pork (intestine/meat/ fat).
