List of engineers for Pan-Borneo is submitted

Kota Kinabalu: The Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM) Sabah branch is hopeful that members would be given a slice of the Pan Borneo Highway (PBH) project cake.According to its outgoing chairman Ir. Paul Yap Kok Wai, the association had sent a list of its Sabah panel firms to the PBH Project Delivery Partner for appointment as consulting engineer.

"PBH PDP gave a positive response to our list and we hope all of our members can benefit from a slice of the cake from the PBH project," he said during ACEM Sabah branch 24th annual general meeting few days ago.

Ir Amirul Hisham Ismail was elected new ACEM chairman at the meeting that was officiated by Kota Kinabalu City Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai who pledged to work closely with the consulting engineers in areas involving city planning and development.

Other elected committee members are Ir. Tan Kok Jyh, Ir. Chia Khuin Fung, Ir. Lee Tet Fon, Ir. Benny Soong, Ir. Wah Kheng Haw, Ir. Joe Primus, Ir. Amarjit Singh, Ir. Chin Tat Hing, Ir. Kenny Lo and Ir. Brandon Galiman.

Among the association's milestones was the formulation of the National Building Code for Seismic Design and the request for local participation of the PBH.

The association also contributed in the establishment of the Sabah Building Ordinance since 2000 and will continue to assist the state government to expedite for enactment.

"We are willing to provide the technical terms in Bahasa to the Attorney General for the finalisation of the ordinance," said Yap.

The meeting was attended by 48 out of 134 registered individual members which was a record high since its inception in 1993.
