Kota Kinabalu: Pakatan NGO Pro Barisan Nasional (BN) wants former Kedah Menteri Besar cum Kedah Umno Liaison Chief Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir to show proof that Sabah BN leaders stopped party members from listening to him speak at a forum held by a non-governmental organisation here recently. On May 14, Mukhriz wrote in an open letter on Facebook that there had been elements among BN leaders who had prevented members from hearing him speak during functions after he was no longer on the same page with the Umno President. The social media update was made after he was supposed to speak at a forum organised here.

Pakatan NGO Pro BN leader Zulkarnain Mahdar denied that there was any such political restriction and that such attempts had been made against him by Sabah BN leaders. He however noted that his visit here was clearly to divide party members, adding that his allegations were unsubstantiated by facts. "It is true that Mukhriz had a lot of friends in Sabah including among Umno members but at the same time this doesn't mean he fully understood the openness of politics in Sabah. "His warm welcome here previously had not been due to this popularity alone, but also because he was the Kedah Menteri Besar and the Umno Kedah Liaison Chief.

"Sadly, his recent visit here was the opposite of strengthening BN and this was the reason he no longer saw the rousing welcome by Umno Sabah members like before," he said. He said the claims Mukhriz made through his recent open letter were an underhanded political game, saying it would be much easier if he and the organiser just admit that their event was poorly received.
