Tournament expected to see all STA affiliates taking part

Sandakan: All nine affiliates of Sabah Tennis Association (STA) are expected to take part in the 30th State inter-affiliate tournament to be held in Sandakan District Tennis Association (SDTA) courts from the May 28-30.The four categories to be staged are Men's (Sabah Sports Minister challenge trophy), Ladies (Sabah Tourism Minister challenge trophy), Veterans (STA President challenge trophy) and Juniors (Ajit Mannan challenge trophy).

According to STA President Johnson Koh, the overall champions will be awarded the Sabah Chief Minister challenge trophy.

"Every participating team will be given a subsidy of RM250 per category for travelling costs and each category winner will also be given a bonus of RM500 as an additional incentive.

"Apart from that, each affiliate is given the green light to solicit for financial and material assistance from donors and well-wishers including advertisements, which will be printed in the souvenir programme but the funds will be retained by each affiliate."

Meanwhile, SDTA President Fernando Rulloda said the preparations for the tournament are in order and the managers meeting will be held at 7pm at the SDTA clubhouse before the AGM.

He added that they have invited Sandakan Municipal Council President Datuk James Wong to officiate the welcoming dinner on May 28.
