Roadshow to create awareness among entrepreneurs

Kota Kinabalu: The second leg of the 'Gerak IKS SDC 2016' programme will be held at the Dewan KAKA Motel Sipitang from May 23 to 24 to promote initiatives that target the development of local Small and Medium Industries (SMIs) and Entrepreneurs (SMEs)."Sabah Bumiputera Chamber of Commerce (DBPS) had been appointed as the lead chamber to organise this programme at the West Coast South, comprising Sipitang, Beaufort, Membakut, Kuala Penyu and Menumbuk districts," said organising chairman Yamani Hafez Musa during a press conference here, Thursday.He added that the committee members include representatives from various government departments and agencies including Teraju, Sedia and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM).ADVERTISEMENT Hafez said the programme aims to create awareness among SME entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs on the various programmes and assistance provided by government agencies and Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) initiatives."The roadshow will also provide latest information on SME Entrepreneur Development Funds and Startup Bumiputera in Sabah and many other financial assistance schemes offered by government agencies."It is hoped that the programme will increase the capability of SMEs through the sharing of investment information, training programme, marketing and existing initiatives especially those under SDC," he said.He added that it would also give opportunities to local SMEs to discuss issues and challenges they face in their quest to become successful entrepreneurs.ADVERTISEMENT "We want their feedback, we want to know what kind of obstacles they are facing in achieving their dreams. We want them also to give us suggestions on how we can improve and therefore, encourage SME development in Sabah," he said.

The organisers are expecting between 250 and 400 people to turn up for the event and urged all entrepreneurs from the five districts to come and seize the opportunity to increase their knowledge especially on new business opportunities that can be pursued.The two days will be filled with quality talks delivered by experts in their respective fields. The programme is open for the public in order to give as wide access as possible to all participants who want to obtain information on the various entrepreneurship programme."During the programme also, there will be exhibitions by entrepreneurs who will showcase their products. Eventually, this is what we want to do, namely to promote what is the best in one district and help develop it and sell it for the bigger market," he said.The programme is one of the government's agenda to empower bumiputera entrepreneurs especially in the SME industry.
