SABAK BERNAM: PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali is prepared to meet with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to discuss on candidates to be fielded in the two by-elections to be held next month. The Selangor Menteri Besar said he had already met with PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and PAS election director Datuk Mustafa Ali to discuss on the issue.

"I have also met with Amanah leaders and Penang chief minister (Lim Guan Eng). Talks are progressing positively and I hope the choice on the candidates will be finalised soon," he told reporters after launching the SmartSelangor Food Stamp programme here, Friday.

Mohamed Azmin said this when asked to comment on PAS's insistence to field the party's candidates in the Sungai Besar, Selangor and Kuala Kangsar, Perak parliamentary seats.

On Thursday the media reported that PAS had shortlisted six candidates, three for each by-election, to be screened by PAS Dewan Ulama.

The parliamentary seats of Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar fell vacant following the death of incumbents, Datuk Noriah Kasnon and Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak, on May 5.

The by-elections will be held simultaneously on June 18, while nomination day has been fixed on June 5.

Meanwhile, in PARIT BUNTAR, Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) will be identifying the areas of focus for component party machinery to carry out its work in the Kuala Kangsar by-election next month.

State BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the machinery needed to work hard in the areas to ensure victory in the by-election.

"Perak BN will be meeting this evening to discuss various preparations for the Kuala Kangsar by-election," he told reporters after presenting 2016 fishermen living allowance in conjunction with the Menteri Besar's retreat to Kerian district at Tanjung Piandang multipurpose hall here.

Meanwhile Zambry, who is also Perak Menteri Besar, said the state BN was still waiting for the name of the candidate contesting in the by-election from BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

On the possibility of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) contesting in the by-election, Zambry said it was up to the opposition to put up as many candidates as they want.

"The party has quarreled with another, now there are two parties, it does not matter, the more the merrier, besides we cannot prevent any party from contesting," he said. –Bernama
