Woman, 63, hurt in S'kan fire

Sandakan: A 63-year-old woman sustained slight injuries and suffered 20 per cent burns when fire destroyed the house she was staying in near Taman Po Hing here, at 9.22pm, Thursday.It was learnt that the woman, who is a temple caretaker, was rushed to the Duchess of Kent Hospital by a Civil Defence Department ambulance.She was eventually allowed to return home after receiving outpatient treatment. ADVERTISEMENT District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mohd Razali Awang Ahmad said 10 personnel rushed to the scene located some 13 kilometres away after receiving a distress call. Razali said the team managed to salvage RM1million worth of property when they stopped the fire from spreading to a block of terrace houses nearby. Also at the scene to assist were police, Karamunting Fire and Rescue Volunteer Team and personnel from the Civil Defence Department.
