'Decision on Muhyi, Mukhriz cases not against party rule'

Putra Jaya: The decision to refer the disciplinary cases involving Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir to the Umno Supreme Council is not against the party constitution.Umno Secretary-General Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (pic) said the decision was made after the party's Disciplinary Board wrote a letter to him stating that these were high-profile cases and it then sent back the cases to the Supreme Council for further action."As the Disciplinary Board itself does not want to make a decision, the reason of they being high-profile cases, what do we do then? Just keep quiet about it?

"So, as party secretary-general, I had to put forward (to the Supreme Council) what was written to me by the Disciplinary Board," he said after launching the Semarak Komuniti 1Malaysia programme, here, Saturday.Tengku Adnan, who is also Federal Territories Minister, was asked by reporters to comment on Muhyiddin's statement that the decision to bring his case to the Supreme Council was against the party's disciplinary procedure and constitution.He said Umno, a party with structure, would always ensure that any action taken was in accordance with the existing rules, and that Muhyiddin, as former deputy president, should understand and know that the action taken against him had not at all, contravened those rules.Tengku Adnan said the Umno constitution clearly stated that the Supreme Council had the right to carry out its responsibilities as the party's top decision-making body, and could also decide on other matters not stipulated in the party's code of ethics and constitution.

Asked whether the Supreme Council would make a decision on Muhyiddin and Mukhriz at its meeting, expected to be held on May 27, he said his task was only to bring the Disciplinary Board's request to the Supreme Council, and it was up to the council to decide.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"Why the need to do that? I can only ask him (Dr Mahathir) to think before he speaks and not to make statements that people could twist and manipulate, which ultimately could be detrimental to Umno, the party which had given him power to administer the country for more than 20 years," he said.
