Penampang: The district BN Chief Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin said he was disheartened to see discord among the natives who are still arguing about what to call themselves after over 50 years. "You can call me Kadazan, Dusun or Momogun – I don't mind," he said when opening the Penampang district Kaamatan Festival at Padang Siol Hungab. He was reacting to the people's squabbles in the newspaper and social media.

"Now we should focus on substance. We want the culture of the people to stay and ensure our children able to speak their own language in the future.

"Kaamatan is now symbolic, it is not just about the planting of padi. We live in the world today not just for ourselves but also for our future generation so that they can have better lives," he said, adding that Kaamatan is also a tourist attraction which can help boost the economy.

Donald also talked about a group of so-called NGOs in the social media who are against the proposal to withdraw all the MyKads in Sabah.

"I am not even sure if the NGOs are real because their logos are not clear when viewed in the social media," he said.

The proposal is not for political purpose but for the benefit of the country in terms of security and for the future generation, he added.

"If the NGOs are real, our community leaders should petition against them," he said.

Meanwhile, District Officer Luvita Koisun, as chairperson of the organising committee, thanked MCA Penampang Chief Datuk Francis Goh for donating RM300,000 to upgrade the stage and provide other facilities at the Padang.

The new facilities not only brought cheer to the festival but also useful for sporting activities.

The highlights of the event included Unduk Ngadau which saw Ramayah-hailed Sherry Anne Laujang, 21, crowned the winner and she will represent the district at the State-level competition.

The runners-up were Fayelina Rudolp Labangka, 23, from Penampang and Carrey Evanne Kim Lee, 20, from Koidupan.
