SIE going for quality rather than quantity

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah International Exposition 2016 organising Chairman Datuk Mohd Basri Abd Gafar said all 155 exhibition booths have been sold out ahead of schedule.We are optimistic that this year's event will again be a roaring success," he said, adding it was decided to allow 10 additional booths to accommodate registrations submitted between now and September.

He said last minute applicants will put on the waiting list and will be considered should registered participants back out at the last minute.

"We reduced the number of participants this year in order to focus on quality," he said. The previous event registered more than 200 participants.

The 9th SIE 2016 will be held at Sutera Harbour Resort from Sept 15 to 18 and will officially be graced by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

Jointly organised by Federation of Sabah Industries (FSI), Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Sabah Branch and the State Government Of Sabah and fully endorsed by the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MALTRADE) , this year's bennial event will see participation of 21 countries and is expected to pull more than 50,000 crowds during the four days function.

Basri said the participating countries include the Philippines; Nambia; South Africa; Pakistan; France; Poland; Thailand; Australia; Vietnam; Brunei Darussalam; China; Indonesia; Singapore; Switzerland; Korea; Germany; Taiwan; Turkey; Morocco; and Lesotho.

Among the industries to be showcased are green technology, real estate, services and tourism, manufacturing, agriculture and fisheries, food and beverage, and the gas and oil industry.

According to Mohd Basri, VIP treatment will be accorded to all participating visitors with city tour and visits to tourist destinations upon request.

" This is one way also of promoting Sabah to our visitors," he said.

The participants are expected to arrive on Sept 14 and the official programme of the trade exhibition would kick-off the following day. A Sabah International Business Luncheon Talk will also be organised on Sept 15 to be officiated by the Chief Minister of Sabah.

Since its inception in 2000, Basri said the event has successfully managed to attract 300,439 visitors coming from more than 30 countries worldwide.

Apart from providing a platform for the participants, the event is also designed to establish business contacts, showcase latest products and services from BIMP-EAGA and Asean countries.
