UMS: Planting of more rainforest trees should be done yearly

Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Harun bin Abdullah said the planting of more rainforest trees should be made a major activity each year as part of efforts to take care of and look after the environment."The awareness of looking after and preserving the forests and environment is also carried out globally through the World Forestry Day and World Environmental Day celebrations which are celebrated each year."It is our hope that that both these important days are celebrated on a large scale so that the spirit of loving the forests and environment can be fostered and inculcated continuously among the people especially the younger generation starting from the school level.ADVERTISEMENT He said this in his speech which was read out by UMS Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Dr D. Kamarudin D. Mudin in conjunction with World Forestry Day 2016 at the UMS International Tropical Forestry School foyer on Tuesday.Harun said as such various programmes and activities related to efforts to care for, protect and conserve the forests and the environment need to be strengthened.
