Tenom: Tenom MP Datuk Raime Unggi suggested the government utilise the abandoned 500 hectares of grazing field for other developments for the benefit of the people.Raimi said the spacious field in Melalap and Kemabong might be good for a variety of agricultural activities.

He said he received complaints from villagers that the land was left abandoned without any development by the parties concerned for years.

"It would be better if the land is developed by the government for agricultural activities, after the government abolishes the 'grazing land' status which was viewed as not helping to elevate the community's socio-economy," said Raimi after presenting canopy and poly bags to the Umno branch at Kg Maugus in Kemabong.

"If there is no effort by the government to develop this area, then it is better to give it to villagers who need land to be made as a village area... it could generate income for those landless villagers.

"The government needs to think about the fate and needs of people in rural areas as in my area, they are very dependent on agriculture produce," he said.
