499 kindies in Sabah join Fire Safety Club

Kota Kinabalu: More than 449 kindergartens in Sabah have joined the Children's Fire Safety Club (3K Club) involving over 14,470 members statewide.Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Director Nordin Pauzi said the 3K Club was part of the their education and public awareness programme for pre-school children. "The department's effort is also to provide awareness to children about the danger of fire," he said in a statement here, Tuesday. The fire safety education programmes implemented via 3K Club include a visit to the fire station, a fire drill in school and safety awareness activities via drawing and colouring competitions and a fire-fighting game.

In a related development, Nordin said, last year, six children under 12 years old were killed in fires compared to 10 children in 2014. "The continuous efforts in providing education on the importance of safety and awareness of fire danger should be intensified," he said.
