Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah People's Right Association is inviting the Health Minister, Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam, State Health Director, Dr Christina Rundi and Queen Elizabeth Hospital I (QEH I) Director, Dr Heric Corray, and media practitioners to jointly visit QEI on June 3 at 10am for a survey of the hospital's facilities and services for further improvements. Its President, Lee Pun Yee extended the invitation via a media statement, Tuesday, in the wake of his allegations against the Health Ministry and the response from Dr Corray.

Last week, Lee alleged that the Ministry has failed the people of Sabah by not improving the conditions in QEH I in the areas of parking facilities, provision of sufficient machines for haemodialysis, lack of parking lots for haemodialysis patients and disabled persons (OKUs) and absence of air-conditioners for the open wards.

He had claimed that QEH I is in dire need of haemodialysis machines, saying one patient had to seek treatment outside.

In response, Dr Corray said the Ministry is always concerned about the needs of Sabahans, regardless of race and religion, and the accusations that the Ministry had failed Sabahans are untrue and totally wrong.

According to him, the hospital had taken various measures to ease car park congestion within the precincts of the hospital.

For example, a shuttle service is provided to an alternative car park area in Taman Rimba, near the State Archives.

Dr Corray further said the hospital is also equipped with 17 haemodialysis machines and are all utilised on daily basis, plus seven other machines as back-up.

He added that the hospital has never refused and in fact, it welcomes any offer from organisations or institutes wishing to make a contribution to the hospital.

However, Lee felt that whatever inadequacies have to be addressed immediately with concrete suggestions to resolve longstanding problems.

"I am not blaming any quarters. I am only pointing out shortcomings for the good of the rakyat," he said.
