Illegal racing: 20 spend night in lock-up

Tawau: A total of 20 motorcyclists had to stay the night in the lock-up of the district police station when they were detained and their motorcycles seized for suspected illegal motorcycle racing, on Monday. It was learnt that they were among participants of 'Santai Kapcai Komuniti' at the Tawau Sports Complex and they came from Nabawan, Tambunan, Kota Belud, Lahad Datu and one from Mile 2, Jalan Apas here. District Police Chief here, ACP Fadil Marsus said all the motorcyclists were men aged between 20 and 41 and were detained during 'Ops Motorsikal Bersepadu' in the town area and Takada along Jalan Kuhara – Jalan Apas.ADVERTISEMENT Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

In the four-hour operation that began at 4pm, he said a total of 33 traffic summonses were issued for various traffic offences."Ten were for riding motorcycles without licences and they will be brought to court on June 15 while 23 summonses were for violation of traffic regulations such as the car registration plate not complying with the standard specification, and for having modified exhausts, among others. "Nineteen motorcyclists were detained under Section 105 of the Criminal Procedure Code and another one was detained under Immigration Act for not having valid personal identification documents," Fadil said.
