Tapper hit by stray bullets

Beaufort: A 54-year-old rubber tapper suffered gunshot wounds on her left hand and broke three bones due to stray bullets in Kg Ulu Lingkungan, Weston, Monday.District Police Chief here, DSP Azmir bin Abd Razak said Jaitun @ Zaitun binti Jamil sustained two holes on her left hand and three broken bones caused by stray bullets before 7am on May 30.

"Jaitun went to tap rubber at 5am. After tapping about 10 trees, she heard an explosion suspected from a gun and suddenly felt numb on her left hand with blood flowing.

"Immediately, she walked about a kilometre to her home and informed her 21-year-old daughter who rushed her to the Sipitang hospital.

"Upon reaching the hospital, they were directed to lodge police report so that the victim could be treated by a specialist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu," he said.

Azmir said the x-ray report showed that the victim sustained injuries on her left hand and broke three bones believed caused by stray bullets coming from a gun of illegal hunter.

He said the victim is being treated in the QEH in Kota Kinabalu and reported to be in a stable condition.
