Kota Kinabalu: A Maxus G10 Multi-Purpose-Vehicle awaits the First Prize winner of a La Salle raffles fund raising project, said Herman Yee, Fund Raising Chairman for the purchase of Sri Bumi Apartment Building located directly opposite SM Sa Salle, Tanjung Aru. The June 4 event will be officiated by Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak, Tan Sri Richard Malanjum, one of the most visible ex-student of SM La Salle.

"The Maxus G10 together with the raffles tickets will be handed over to Malanjum in a brief ceremony that day to be held at the Junior Block that afternoon," Yee noted.

"The idea is to raise RM1 million by January 2017 – date set for the raffles draw, to pay off the Sri Bumi Apartment for which a down payment of RM500,000 had already been made," Yee said.

"Actually we need RM1.2 million to complete the purchase but the point is once we have raised the targeted RM1 million, it will be easy to wrap up the remaining RM200,000," he said.

"But the big idea behind this raffles is to fulfil a dream of the late Datuk Bro Charles O'Leary – establishment of an English Learning Centre under the name of La Salle for which we have full control, as a project under the La Sale Initiative," Yee said.

"Right now La Salle School is out of our control. For example, we can propose principals but selection is up to the authority," he said.

"But premise-wise, we definitely have no problem because all the land where school sits on currently belongs to the Church," Yee pointed out.

"La Salle students had always been known for their English proficiency and that is a key deciding factor to go for an English Learning Centre because we want to uphold this tradition," he said.

"Once we have raised enough money to finish paying off the Sri Bumi Apartment Building, all rentals collected from Sri Bumi will go to us and the income will enable us to start the English Learning Centre," Yee noted.

Meanwhile, the Organising Chairman for the raffles is Peter Liau.
