MyKad offences: Filipinos jailed in JB

Johor: Twenty-four Filipinos pleaded guilty to owning fake MyKad or Mykad belonging to others at Magistrate's Court here Wednesday.The Mykad is the national identity document for Malaysian citizens. One received two years jail and the rest 10 months jail.The accused, 16 men and eight women, aged from 25 to 60, entered the guilt plea after the charges were read out to them before Magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Allias. Seventeen were in possession of fake Mykad and the rest Mykad belonging to others.

They were employed as factory and contract workers and were arrested in an integrated operation carried out by the National Security Council, National Registration Department (NRD), Immigration Department and the General Operations Force around Masai and Pasir Gudang near here between 1.30am on May 19 and 6am the next day.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

For the offences, they were liable to be jailed up to three years or fined a maximum of RM20,000 or both.Putrajaya NRD prosecuting officers Mohd Fazdhly Abd Razak and Mohd Ashgar Mohd Hussain appeared for the prosecution while all the accused were unrepresented. –Bernama
