BESAR: Sungai Panjang state assemblyman Budiman Mohd Zohdi has called on all quarters not to use the Barisan Nasional Sungai Besar parliamentary by-election candidate as an issue. He said an elected representative wearing two hats - as state assemblyman and Member of Parliament - is normal in politics and need not be blown out of proportion. "They should ask Azmin Ali (Selangor Menteri Besar) because apart from being Gombak MP, he is also Bukit Antarabangsa state assemblyman. ADVERTISEMENT "Ask their leader Wan Azizah (PKR president) who is Permatang Pauh MP as well as Kajang state assemblyman. What is important is for BN to work as a team and serve the people," he said in a media conference, here Monday. Budiman also criticised the opposition who described Sungai Panjang as still backward compared to Sekinchan, another state seat under the Sungai Besar parliamentary constituency. Sekinchan is represented by DAP state assemblyman, Ng Suee Lim. ADVERTISEMENT Budiman said in reality, how does Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) intend to develop Sungai Panjang when they are not the federal government and do not have any representative in the Selangor state Exco. "So it is better to do detailed homework before making any statement. For those who are not aware, Sungai Panjang has a lot to offer in eco-tourism such as homestay and other attractions such as fireflies and hornbill.

"Every week the coastal areas of Sungai Panjang are filled with tourists, anglers. Apart from that, we also have an MRSM (Maktab Rendah Sains Mara) and a Health Clinic in Simpang Lima," he said. In another development, the BN candidate said he received very good response from Chinese voters in Sekinchan when holding various programmes there. In fact, he said they called him 'Ahmad' and helped him put up a fanpage in Chinese. The by-election on June 18 would see Budiman of BN challenged by Meru state assemblyman Dr Abdul Rani Osman and Azhar Abdul Shukur from Amanah which is representing Pakatan Harapan. The by-election is being held following the death of Tan Sri Noriah Kasnon in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5. – Bernama
