Good outing for Sandakan youth players

Sandakan: Players from the Sandakan Youth Tennis Club (KTRS) had another good harvest at two junior age-grouped tournaments in Selangor and Kota Kinabalu, recently.At the Kota Kinabalu leg of the Sabah Junior Championship which concluded over the weekend, Harish John Taren Sunil Manoharan won the Under-14 Boys Doubles with his partner Kevalraj Singh Kreer.

He added another gold medal, partnering Luke Guansing, in the Under-16 Boys Doubles. Harish also grabbed the runner-up title in the Under-14 Boys Singles.

Fellow club member Jonathan Joshua captured the Under-10 Boys Doubles' crown with his partner Mohd Radhie. He also won a bronze medal in the singles event.

Another KTRS medal winner was Johnaton Chan who won a bronze medal in the Under-14 Boys Doubles.

A week earlier, at the MBPJ Milo Junior Open Championship in Selangor, Harish partnered with Chung Woo Song to qualify for the semi finals where they lost to eventual champions Christian Liew and Imran Daniel Hazli.

At the same tournament, Jonathan Joshua and Daarish Thangraja also qualified for the Under-10 Doubels semi finals but lost to second-seeded pair of Muhamad Fakhrul Radzi and Muhamad Annas Farish.

Jonathan also reached the singles' quarterfinals of his age-group before bowing out to third seed Muhamad Annas.

KTRS President Taren Sunil Manoharans commended his players' achievement, saying that it is important for them to gain more experience with every event that they participated.

Taren Sunil added that, with their confidence growing, KTRS juniors are now eyeing more medals at coming tournaments.

"We will not let them down. We will be sending them to participate," he said.
