Aircraft technician charged with supporting terrorist group

SHAH ALAM: An aircraft technician was charged in the Magistrate's Court here Wednesday with promoting membership in the Islamic State (IS) and providing facilities to support activities by the terror group.However, no plea was recorded from Nor Hafizy Che Meh, 39, after the charge was read out to him before Magistrate Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin.

Nor Hafizy, who has three children, was charged with promoting membership in the terror group at his house in Lorong Kemboja, Kampung Melayu Subang here, between December 2013 and October 2015.

The charge, under Section 130(G)(b )of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to 30 years and fine, or both, if found guilty. He was also charged with allowing his house for use to hold meetings in support of the terrorist group at the same place and tome.

The court set July 28 for mention.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Roslan Mat Nor.

Meanwhile, in LUMUT, a clerk was charged in the Seri Manjung Magistrate's Court here Wednesday with possession of books and documents on terrorism.

However, no plea was recorded from Rafidah Juma'at, 26, after the charge was read out before Magistrate Nur Shaqira Ibrahim

Rafidah was charged with committing the offence at a house in Taman Bistari, Ayer Tawar, Manjung, last March 24.

The charge, under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, provides for a sentence of not more than seven years jail or fine and forfeiture of the printed materials, if found guilty.

The court set July 28 for mention to transfer the case to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nur Farhana Hashim, while Rafidah was unrepresented.

In PETALING JAYA, a car painter was charged in the Magistrate's Court here Wednesday for possessing materials related to Daesh militant group in his house.

Muhammad Aizam Mat Zin,39, allegedly possessed 65 pieces of A3 sized paper and three pieces of A4 self-adhesive paper relating to Daesh at No. 27, Jalan PUJ 1/14, Taman Puncak Jalil, Seri Kembangan, Selangor at 6.20am on March 22.

The charge under Section 130JB (1)(a) of Penal Code provides for up to seven years jail sentence or a fine, and forfeiture of the materials upon conviction.

No plea was recorded after the charge against him was read before Magistrate Salamiah Salleh.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Fatimah Yahya while Muhammad Aizam was represented by counsel Mohd Fadhly Yaacob.

The court set July 29 for mention of the case. – Bernama
