Charged for allowing terrorist to use his bank account

KAMPAR: A 22-year-old kayak instructor was charged in the Magistrate's Court here Wednesday for allowing his bank account to be used by a terrorist.Mohamad Jazrin Mohamad Azhar, who was unrepresented, nodded his head to indicate he understood the charge, which was read to him in front of magistrate Mohd Azrul Hasyimi Mohammad.

Jazrin, of Lot 35379A, Kampung Sungai Itek near here, was accused of allowing his RHB bank account at No 67 and 69, Jalan Tasik, Gopeng to be used by a terrorist Muhammad Wanndy Mohamed Jedi between January and February this year for the militant's benefit.

No plea was recorded from Jazrin, who was charged under Section 130Q(1) of the Penal Code.

If convicted, Jazrin faces a jail term of not more than 20 years or fine or forfeiture of properties.

Azrul Hasyimi did not grant bail to the accused and fixed July 27 for mention.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Azriah Zaid appeared for the prosecution.

Meanwhile, in MALACCA, the elder brother of wanted militant Muhammad Wanndy Mohamed Jedi, 26, was charged with dealing with terrorist property at a Magistrate's Court Wednesday.

Mohamed Danny, 29, from Jeram, Selangor was charged with handling Wanndy's property by facilitating the transactions to and from his younger brother's bank account for the benefit of a terrorist group.

He was accused of committing the offences between Jan 28, 2016 and March 5, 2016 at a bank branch in Ayer Keroh.

The charge under Section 130Q(1) of the Penal Code, carries a jail term for up to 20 years, or fine, and forfeiture of the property concerned, upon conviction.

No plea was recorded from the accused.

Magistrate Mohd Asri Abd Rahman Sidik did not allow bail and fixed July 18 for mention.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurshazwani Ishak appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
