Two blocks of SMK Kunak Jaya unsafe
Kunak: Two blocks of SMK Kunak Jaya, here, have been vacated since Monday due to serious cracks. The cracked building houses the classrooms for Form One until Form Five, a laboratory and a library.

The school's Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman Mohd Hatta Arabi said that an inspection conducted by the relevant agencies had verified that the building was not safe to use.

"On June 10, a follow-up inspection was conducted together with the Public Works Department Principal Assistant Director, District Public Works Department engineer and the school was asked to vacate the building," he said.

According to him, a series of inspections was conducted after a tremor was felt in the building in April.

The learning session will be transferred to other parts of the school such as the school's hall, canteen or the field's grandstand.

Hatta hoped that the Education Ministry will provide the funds to build a new school building as there is still a vacant space within the school compound.

The PTA, he said, has established a safety bureau to monitor the situation in the school.

"Imagine the students have to study in an unconducive environment where it is hot during the day and it is even worse when it rains," he said.
