Lorry driver, m-cyclist die in separate crashes

Kota Kinabalu: Two people were killed in separate incidents yesterday.A motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the Beaufort Hospital following a road accident along Km 8 Jalan Beaufort–Sipitang in Beaufort on Monday. The man was identified by police as Mohd Noor Salleh, 44, a Kadazan from Kg. Lumadan, Beaufort. ADVERTISEMENT Beaufort Police Chief DSP Azmir Abd Razak said the 5.40am mishap involved a Honda Ex5 motorcycle, a Perodua Myvi and a Proton Preve.Initial investigations showed that all three vehicles were heading towards Beaufort from Sipitang, with the motorcycle leading the way followed by the Proton Preve and Perodua Myvi.It was learnt that the Proton Preve hit the motorcycle while attempting to overtake, resulting in the motorcyclist being thrown to the ground before getting hit by the Perodua Myvi which failed to brake on time. The 27-year-old Myvi driver escaped unscathed. ADVERTISEMENT Police have since identified the Proton Preve driver who fled the scene. "The Proton Preve driver has been identified to be from Sipitang and will soon be picked up to facilitate investigations," he said.

In LAHAD DATU, a lorry driver was killed on the spot while his passenger suffered a broken back after the lorry they travelled in skidded before landing in a ditch at Km 22, Lahad Datu-Tawau road here.According to District Police Chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad, 25-year old Rudi Ali was driving the lorry towards Tawau from Lahad Datu when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle."The lorry skidded off the road and hit a motorcycle which was parked on the road shoulder. It then fell into a ditch on the side of the road."The driver was trapped inside his lorry and was killed on the spot. His passenger suffered a broken back and was rushed to the hospital for treatment," he said.The motorcyclist however escaped injuries after he managed to jump in time on noticing the lorry through his side mirror.The lucky 30-year old motorcyclist had stopped on the road shoulder due to rain.In TENOM, a A policeman sustained injuries when the car he was driving collided with an Isuzu D-Max vehicle at Km 5 near Taman Mantailang Jalan Tenom – Keningau here. The policeman who is attached with the State police headquarters was returning to the State Capital with his family when he lost control of the vehicle which cut into the opposite lane in the 8pm mishap. The double cab driver, a 42-year-old man from Kg Mailo, Kemabong who escaped unscathed was said to be heading to Tenom from Kota Kinabalu. District Police Chief DSP Mohd Firdaus Abdullah said the case is being probed under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. One incident took place in front of a house in Taman Mutiara in Luyang when a policeman was knocked down after getting hit by a reversing car which refused to stop for inspection in March. Last month, an off-duty policeman and his daughter were killed when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a Perodua Myvi along Jalan Politeknik in the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park.
