Kota Kinabalu: The State Sukma golf squad received valuable tips from top State professional players in their last training session at the Sabah Golf and Country Club over the weekend.Four ex-Sukma players cum PGM professionals Dino Daud, Solomon Emilio, Tan Chien Hau as well as ladies pro Aretha Pan had a friendly match with six members of the current Sukma Team consisting of Casper Lo, Fazley Chua, Jordan Mobijohn, Tham Soot Yuet, Celeste Lo and Chew I-Youn.

Coach Ronnie Pan, who is in charge of the boys, said the presence of the professionals is good for the team as they are in their final preparation state before the games in July.

"It is always good to spar with better players. With their presence it is easier to bring out the best in the juniors.

Furthermore, communication and advice from these experienced professionals will surely help these Sukma players both in strategy, mental and management of their game.

"We are likely to continue with this form of training method by taking advantage of the professionals' free time at least until the Hari Raya before they resume their competitive season. Lately the players have been playing a lot with different courses such as the windy course at Borneo Golf Resort, the tight thinking course in Kinabalu Golf Club and the proven tough Sabah Golf and Country Club (SGCC) course."

The squad flew to Kuching on Tuesday to begin their five-day training session at the Sarawak Kelab Golf Kuching.

"This training site is to prepare them for the long wet course where the Sukma competition will be held at the Matang and Santubong course in the club," he said.

Meanwhile, two other members of the Sukma squad are Suzairi Iqmah and Albright Chong, and the girls are under coach Frazer Pook.
