Two seriously injured in Ranau lorry-4WD crash

Ranau: Two people were seriously injured and another slightly injured when the Isuzu Dmax four-wheel drive they were travelling in collided with a 10-tonne Nissan UD lorry at Km 30 of the Ranau-Telupid Road, near Kg Nabutan, Monday.The seriously injured were the driver of the Isuzu Dmax, Mohd Azizul Alih, 29, and his passenger, Sapli Rajak, 24, while another passenger, Rafio Juhde, 24, suffered minor injuries and the driver of the lorry escaped unhurt.Ranau Police Chief DSP Lee Mohd Farhan Abdulah, who confirmed the incident, said initial investigation revealed that the Dmax driver was trying to overtake a vehicle when the accident occurred.

"The driver was trying to overtake when his vehicle's right front tyre suddenly exploded, causing it to skid out of control and collided with the lorry coming from the opposite direction," he said.The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.Meanwhile, Ranau Fire and Rescue Chief Jimmy Lagung said they received a call from the public at about 9.58pm and rushed two fire engines with seven personnel to the scene.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"When they arrived, the Dmax driver was still trapped in the vehicle while the two passengers had managed to get out of their vehicle," he said.

He added that the firemen managed to free the trapped driver before he was sent to the Ranau Hospital.
