Jailed for vice and offering teenage daughter for sex

Kota Kinabalu: She not only prostituted herself for a living but abused her 13-year-old daughter by offering her to a foreigner for sex, the Magistrate's Court heard on Tuesday.The 31-year-old local woman wept, begging for leniency and asked to be given another chance but the court was having none of it. It sentenced her to five years' imprisonment.

She admitted before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to sexually abusing the child or causing or permitting her to be so abused in a hotel room at Putatan at 9.15pm on March 2, this year.

Inspector Isfandiar Jasdi, prosecuting, told the court that police who raided the room, found the girl together with a 33-year-old Pakistani clothes seller inside.

The girl told police that her mother was in the next room and had allowed her to be in the room with the Pakistani for sex for a certain payment.

The woman, who was not represented, requested for leniency saying she felt remorse over what she had done and begged to be given a chance.

Weeping in the accused's dock, the woman said she has three children, no husband and prostituted herself for a living.

Isfandiar urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence as a lesson for the woman and others to not commit such offence.

As a mother, the woman should have taken care of and protected her daughter, he said.

The woman had committed an offence under Section 31(1)(b) of the Child Act 2001, which provides for a fine of up to RM20,000 or a jail term of up to 10 years' or both, on conviction. In another case, a 19-year-old man who pleaded guilty to molesting a woman will know his fate on June 24.

The court deferred the sentencing of Salto Shuib pending the availability of his social report from the Welfare Department.

Salto admitted to kissing the woman at 5.30pm on May 2 at the fruit market in front of the Le Meridien Hotel here.
