Beaufort: The implementation of the Mammogram Subsidy will be handed over to the Health Ministry from the National Population And Family Development Board from August. Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said this was due to capability and expertise available at the Health Ministry.

"Women need not worry as the subsidy will not be discontinued… they have all the manpower, allocation and clinics to carry out the checks," she said.

Azizah said this during the distribution of Bubur Lambuk to road users near the Beaufort Parliamentary Service Office here on Wednesday.

Azizah who is also the Beaufort Member of Parliament said more than 100,000 women nationwide have benefitted from the programme since it was introduced in 2007.

Some 58 Nur Sejahtera clinics have been established including 57 mammogram centers registered under the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, providing such services to women aged 40 to 70.

"The subsidy is given to families with a household income of RM10,000 and lower, the present allocation is expected to last until August due to the overwhelming response among women in suburban areas.

"Those in the rural areas will be given transport, lodging and food when they go for check-ups in our panel clinics," she said.
